"SPAMALOT"... (English Version)

"Spamalot," the musical comedy is born from the mind of Eric Idle and John Du Prez. It is an adaptation (or a loving theft, according to those who ask) from the film "Monty Python And The Holy Grail" ( "The knights of the table square and its crazy fans"), played by John Cleese, Eric Idle, Graham Chapman, Michael Palin, Terry Jones and Terry Gilliam.

After weeks of showing, in a preview in Chicago (Illinois), the production was officially opened on Broadway (New York), March 17, 2005 to receive laudatory comments. In fact the play won three Tony awards, including Best Musical, Best Performance by an Actress in a Musical (Sara Ramirez delivered as The Lady of the Lake) and Best Direction of a Musical (Mike Nichols surrendered to).

Eighteen months after his big debut on Broadway, "Spamalot", was moved to the West End of London, premiered on October 17, 2006.

Since it began, the show has had a "non-stop tour" by the United States, a permanent court in Las Vegas, a step-by Melbourne and has been translated into Spanish for a permanent production in Barcelona, led by the catalan comediants group "El Tricicle."

Some famous faces who participate or have participated in this fair include Tim Curry, Peter Davison, Simon Russell Beale, Alan Dale, David Hyde Pierce, Hank Azaria, Alan Tudyk, Bill Ward, Sara Ramirez, Christopher Sieber and Clay Aiken. John Cleese appears in the credits of the English version as the voice of God, a role which Spain assumes the comic monologist Pepe Rubianes. It should be noted that both Beale, as Sieber and Curry have been part of the cast of original productions, in both New York and London.

“Spamalot”, es la comedia musical nacida de la mente de Eric Idle y John Du Prez. Es una adaptacion (o un amoroso robo, según a quien se pregunte) de la película “Monty Python and the Holy Grail”, (“Los caballeros de la mesa cuadrada y sus locos seguidores”), interpretada por John Cleese, Eric Idle, Graham Chapman, Michael Palin, Terry Jones y Terry Gilliam.

Después de semanas de mostrarse, en un preestreno en Chicago, (Illinois), la producción se inauguró oficialmente en Broadway, (Nueva York), el 17 de marzo de 2005 recibiendo elogiosos comentarios. De hecho la obra ganó tres premios Tony, incluidos el de Mejor Musical, Mejor Actuación de una Actriz en un musical, (entregado a Sara Ramírez como La Dama del Lago) y Mejor Dirección de un Musical (entregado a Mike Nichols).

Dieciocho meses después de su gran estreno en Broadway, “Spamalot”, se trasladó al West End de Londres, estrenandose el 17 de octubre de 2006.

Desde que comenzó, el espectáculo ha tenido un “non-stop tour”, por Estados Unidos, una corte permanente en Las Vegas, un paso por Melbourne y ha sido traducida al español para una producción permanente en Barcelona, dirigida por el grupo cómico catalán “El Tricicle”.

Algunas caras famosas que participan, o han participado en esta feria incluyen a Tim Curry, Peter Davison, Simon Russell Beale, Alan Dale, David Hyde Pierce, Hank Azaria, Alan Tudyk, Bill Ward, Sara Ramirez, Clay Aiken y Christopher Sieber. John Cleese aparece registrado en el reparto de la version inglesa como la voz de Dios, papel que en España asume el monologuista Pepe Rubianes. Hay que destacar que tanto Beale, como Sieber y Curry han formado parte del reparto de las producciones originales, tanto en Nueva York como en Londres.
